General Surgery in the Caribbean
In the drop-down pages of this menu you will find information on the main area's of general surgery regularly performed on the island of Curacao.
The main rule in medicine and surgery is Primum Non Nocere (To do no further harm)
This means patient safety first. We are committed to this through extensive safety protocols.
Preoperative Anesthesia Check
All patients that are planned for surgery under general or regional anesthesia should be checked preoperatively by the anesthesiology department. This preoperative checkup screens for possible risks (e.g cardiopulmonary risks) which allows preventive measures, this ensures maximum safety during and after the operation.
Safety Protocol
All surgery in the hospitals should be performed with some form of the WHO advised surgical safety checklist.
