Small lesions of the skin and soft tissue that require resection or incision are malignant, pre-malignant or benign and symptomatic or infectious (abscess).

​

Small local surgery is often done under local anesthesia with needle injection of lidocaine.

With infectious cases the wound is left open to close secondarily (per secundam healing) so as not to cause a heavier abscess or infection

In clean surgery the wounds are closed with absorbable sutures or nonabsorbable sutures (which are typically removed in between 6 to 12 days)

Complications and measures

The risks and complications with small surgery are minimal and of low impact,the most common complications are:

​

-Postoperative bleeding (low chance, less than 10%)

-Wound infection (low chance, less than 5%0

Anti-coagulation warning:

Eventhough the surgery may small and local, it is imperative that you inform your surgeon if you are using any kind of anti-coagulant agents (blood thinning agents)
